What’s the best time to brush?

Most of us have been brushing regularly since we learnt to brush. However, we are rarely curious to know more about this 2 minute habit. Probably, this is our longest running habit streak 😀

Optimally it is good to brush twice a day i.e. after you wake up and before you go to bed. But which one is more important or both are equally important? What’s does you smart device, brain, speak? Morning or Night? Whatever it speaks be it morning or night. I would rather ask you to look into your daily habit. Are you brushing twice a day daily or only in morning/night? Is it easy to skip brushing at night or in morning? Obviously it’s easy to skip at night, after being tired we just want to sleep 🛌🏽.

Before we jump to the answer let’s understand what happens when we brush. This simple habit helps in removing the extra food particles and debris from our teeth. Retarding the growth of plaque at out teeth. What’s plaque? Dental plaque is a sticky, colourless or pale yellow film that is constantly forming on your teeth and contains bacteria.

Back to the question, if you think the answer is night, you got it correct. Cheers! But why night? When we are asleep there is less production of saliva, which has anti-bacterial properties and neutralises the acid level in your mouth. Due to this low production, plaque is able to grow freely and the acidic nature of our mouth helps it more at night. The bacteria’s even start eating our teeth. On the other hand in the morning, saliva is produced in good amount and it’s antibacterial property save us.

Now you know why scientifically it’s more important to brush at night. It doesn’t mean you stop brushing in the morning altogether :D. Just to remind you knowing and doing are 2 different things!

Happy Brushing!!!
