In past couple of articles we discussed about university education, the old way. Let’s explore the virtual world of education . You might have been doing a couple of online courses since we have been quarantined. We like things when we do them for the first time. However, a few of us continue to like it in the long run. Honestly, at some point everyone gets stuck including, Bejos, Ambani and more. On the path to success there are lot of stations owned by failure.
Back to the discussion, how do you feel on doing the online courses? We like completing the courses listening to the videos one by one. But from learning perspective we are thinking less. Mostly we just listen to the video and move to the next one whereas in a classroom, you can see the students asking questions or the facilitator putting up an open question for discussion. Sadly, the same thing don’t happen over online yet as most of them are prerecorded. There are on demand classes too, where the instructor teaches live. I haven’t attended any yet so cannot comment, will explore it more. Further, we can go through the online discussion forums to clear our doubts or read other views and have a healthy discussion over there.
Obviously it is cost effective and accessible as acquired. You can take the class when you want, giving a flexibility. At the same time, the misuse of flexibility can erode the discipline in us. We can easily procrastinate the work since there is no harsh deadline generally.
We need more of a hybrid model. Having good thing from both the world. Online is here to stay and we have to adapt with it. We can’t simply say no or ignore it. Adapting to the changing environment is the key to success in today’s fast changing world.
