No Rules Rules

Recently, I completed reading this book, which explains the culture of Netflix. There were many interesting things in this book. Starting from the 4A feedback we discussed previously. There is a fifth A as well, which covers the adaptability to culture.

There is no vacation or expense policy. You are allowed to take as many as holidays you wish. You can spend as much as you want. It’s just that the spending must be in the best interest of Netflix. By giving so much freedom to the employee, they are creating an environment that pushes talent to work independently without looking for some approval from the boss.

They focus highly on hiring the best talent and pay them higher than anyone else in the market. If you have the best talent you can work there with ease, can’t you? It makes some people anxious too as they can be fired anytime. So people focus on improving oneself consistently.

It is a bit difficult to develop such a counter-intuitive culture where in every other company you see things work out on the hierarchical basis.
