Why does google allow adblocker?

After coming across the ad blocker extensions during my college days, I used to wonder why doesn’t google simply block it. After all it is affecting there revenue directly. It generates most of the revenue from ads.

I used to watch all the ads generously 😀 till I was blessed with the blocker. Likewise most of the users don’t know about them. Narrowing it down, how much users do really use ad blockers. Secondly, we are moving towards mobile first where we don’t have extensions. Per the data on satista, there are roughly 27% users in US using ad blockers in 20201. We can roughly assume 20% netizen use ad blocker. Google is wise enough to focus on the rest 80%, that’s a huge consumer base. Further lately if we observe Google’s revenue, it have been heavily trying to diversify the revenue model. Like Whatsapp’s privacy policy, Google’s blockage of adblockers will give more publicity to adblockers and punch more on it’s revenue.

Google owns Android where it smoothly pushes for Google Chrome as in built app. People are generally reluctant to change. We don’t look for alternatives and continue to see the ads. Most of the rising netizen base in India use youtube and google on their device. I doubt even if 5% of them are using any ad blocking extensions or other alternatives. Hence, why cut own’s throat by giving free publicity.

The most interesting part is we don’t search for solutions. We simply complain that it’s showing too much of ads. There is no free lunch. Google too needs to pay huge sums to its employees. 

One of my friends introduced me to brave, chromium based browser, where we can freely browse the internet ad free. Further it even blocks the additional tracker. Most of us aren’t aware of it, probably waiting for Elon Musk to tweet about it 😀

What can be the reasons we aren’t aware? Instead of scratching the brain why aren’t we aware it’s better to focus on changing the present and browse the internet ad free.
