What is success?

How do you define success? Don’t we define it as coming first in any kind of race, be it earning money or scoring good marks or anything competitive. Success means to come first for us in that race.

An experiment was conducted in a company. The company was number one it’s domain. The employees were highly stressed. During the experiment, the employees were asked to think of the revenue, the company wanted to generate this year. Thereafter the researcher took up some assumption to observe the thinking pattern. Assuming, the company ended up earning twice the imagined number in that year, all were overjoyed. Making twice of what they imagined. However, another company ended up earning four times the imagined number, making it the leading company. All were suddenly confused should they be happy or sad. Since they achieved the goal but still they are not number one.

Is being number one really success? We have become highly competitive. It has ingrained in our unconscious mind. There is nothing wrong in being competitive same as there is nothing wrong in being second or earning less. The illness lies in not doing anything or not putting up the required efforts. The real success lies in improving oneself and making oneself deserving, irrespective of what others are doing and without the comparison.
