On धनतेरस do we need to worship only Lord Lakshmiji and Lord Ganeshji? The above picture might have given you some hints.
Since धन means money, we naturally relate धनतेरस to wealth. Let me remind you of the proverb, “Health is Wealth”. धनतेरस is the worship of Lord धन्वन्तरि, Lord of Health.
In ancient times, on this auspicious day, Samundra Manthan took place. At that time, Lord धन्वन्तरि emerged holding a Kalash full of Amrit, the holy water. Accordingly we started to celebrate this day as धनतेरस. There has been this custom of buying silver on this auspicious day. But why silver? Is to because we need to buy auspicious metal to increase our wealth or there is any other reason? People buy utensils and other precious metals too.
Silver is associated with moon. We all know the power of moon, which is calmness, satisfaction and peace of mind. Three months back, we discussed about the power of moonlight. May be you don’t remember. Take a look back to recall the power of moonlight. In today’s world who doesn’t seek peace in this fast moving world. When we are peaceful, we are satisfied. When we are satisfied, we are happy. When we are happy, we are healthy. After all “Health is Wealth”. Hope you are able to relate now as to why one buys silver on this auspicious day.
This day is also known as ‘ध्यान तेरस’ because a day before nirvana i.e. on Deepwali, Lord Mahavir moved to higher level of Dhyan. It is really auspicious day to make oneself healthier. Hope you become more healthy and take health more seriously.
