I had the privileged to come across this book recently. I have used Angel list during my college days but never wondered who founded it. Naval is the chairman and co-founder of Angel list. He is also an investor in Uber, Twitter and various other startups.
This is not an ordinary book like other ones. It has been created via tweets and conversations. Thanks to author Eric for making it a possibility so that we can look into Naval’s mind palace. In the beginning the book talks about wealth. As to how he has been inclined towards creating wealth instead of earning money. Short term pleasant will make long term life a painful one. Square back to instant gratification.
Creating wealth is just another skill that’s need to be nurtured like any other skill. Having wealth may not be your primary objective so you don’t need to bother about that skill as such. But if you really want to be financially independent in the coming decades you need to look for opportunities to create wealth.
Later in the book, Naval talks about happiness, which is just another skill. What’s your default state? Is smiling still your default state? When you were kid smiling was your default state but we keep on losing the charm. But we can still develop that skill by mere practice. Sounds weird right? But yes one needs to practice being happy. As we discussed previously, we don’t need anything to be happy.
He talks about the importance of reading and meditation. He reads hour a day daily. That doesn’t sound much. But when you do that over multiple year every single day things get compounded. Lastly he talk about the importance of physical health and mental health. Making health one’s priority is of utmost importance. If you still don’t have time for exercise, try saying health is not my priority at present it is _______. We take things for granted which aren’t. We still take for granted that we have unlimited amount of time on this universe, where everyone has limited span of time.
There are more numerous lessons incorporated in the book, will discuss about those some other day.
