Ever heard this name? Maybe or may not be. I read this name while I was reading Bill’s booklist for the field of Business. Thereafter, I made up my mind to read the book.
Bob started his journey at ABC. Thanks to his uncle who helped him to get the interview. Though within a year he was asked to leave, but gratefully he found another opening within ABC and was able to remain employed. His boss changed the course of his as the boss demanded perfection and made sure that perfection was delivered. Innovate or die, if you are not innovating out of fear you are bound to die.
Later ABC was acquired by Capital Cities and he started working with Tom and Dan and raised the ladder step by step one at a time. By the time Capital Cities was acquired by Disney there was a clause that Robert would need to be employed with Disney for 5 years. He joined as COO at Disney. During the deal, Tom told him, if you work with dedication, you have a real shot to be a CEO one day. But there were many twists and turns and clashes. He appeared for 13 interviews before he got the job. But he never complained anything about his predecessor during the process. His simple response was to focus on the future and not to repeat those mistakes.
Thereafter he acquired so many precious assets and build a warming relationship with Steve Jobs. Steve was fond of Robert. While acquiring Pixar, just before 30 minutes before the deal was supposed to be announced, Steve shared a confidential information that he had cancer. Since Steve will become the biggest shareholder after the deal, he conveyed the concern to Bob and gave the option to backout of the deal.
Further Disney acquired Marvel, Lucas Films (Star Wars) and some assets of Fox, especially the Indian division. After acquiring Marvel, Bob questioned why aren’t heroes of black color or aren’t lady? Thereafter, Marvel come up with Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Both are listed in the top 10 all-time box-office collection. Robert has beautifully crafted his journey and the difficulties one faces as one rises the ladder. It all seems fancy from outer. We only focus on the glamour, whereas the book shows a totally different picture. It’s a highly recommended book if you are interested to know more about
