The other festivals are too on a fixes day. For instance Deepawali is celebrated on Amavasya of Kartik month. However ,the coversion between the Hindu calendar and the Christian calendar is not based on a permanent formula so the dates keep changing.

Per the hindu calendar, we are in the year of 2077. The month has just 28 days and the remaining days adds up to an extra month after every 30 months whereas in Gregorian we have only February of 28 days and rest of 30 or 31 days. Even the telecom companies follow the Hindu calendar for validity, making the consumer for an extra month after every 30 months.

In the Gregorian calendar the day has 24 hours each consist of 60 minutes whereas in the Hindu calendar the day has 30 muhrats each consist of 48 minutes. As humans our concentration break downs after 1 muhrat i.e. 48 minutes. Both has seven days in a week. In the Hindu calendar every day of week is devoted to a particular God. For instance, Sunday is for Lord Sun and Saturday for Lord Shani and so on.

We lost the charm of Hindu calendar as we got used to the Western Calendar. There is nothing wrong in following in the Western Calendar but more important is not to forget or erase one’s own culture. It’s a great example of how the dominant reins.

The Hindu calendar is based on moon’s movement around the earth whereas the Gregorian calendar is based on earth’s movement around the sun.
