Today is fifth day of the week long Jainism festival “Paryushana Parv” You can read about the previous articles here.
अणु means atom i.e. small. व्रत means promises. The day is about making atomic commitments to improve oneself. Why to start small in such a big and vast world? We want to do something big in our life, who wants to do anything small. But what happens in life is: “We cannot execute big works and we don’t want to do small works, so we end up doing nothing in life” – the man, who feeds India at 5 rupees a plate.
What atomic habits can we develop?
First and foremost is being honest. Honesty start with oneself not others. Trust is the most durable asset one can have. Secondly to eat right. On consuming we are talking about mind’s food not for our tummy. Consuming the right content. There is too much of content available all over the internet. In present scenario, information is cheap whereas attention is expensive. Be choosy, chose wisely on what you want to spend your time, just like how conscious you are to spend your money. We think before we spend, do we think in a similar fashion when we spend time. Money can be regained once lost, time can never be. Change starts, when one start thinking about the right way of thinking. There are many more tiny habits that you can add to your life.
Now let’s talk about the commitment part to ensure our action matches our word. After all actions speak louder than word. We make the right choice, however if do not commit to the process, it won’t be of any use. Taking small steps help here, since we don’t get overburdened and we enjoy the process too. Enjoying the journey is more important than reaching the destination. How do one become an action taker? Starting as small as possible, may be as small as one second and doing it consistently and passionately without any failure. Thereafter just keep increase the timings. Compounding will show its miracle as you progress. Happy Progressing!
