Continuing our celebration of the Paryushana Parv. In case you haven’t read the previous articles on this week long festival, you can read here.
We have entered day 3. We will know more about सामायिक today. It takes 48 minutes to do one. It is advised to do religious work and sit stable in one posture. To do as much less movement as possible. I generally do at least once a week. It is more about the practice of equality. To be honest with oneself. To practice non-violence. We cover our mouth while doing सामायिक so that when we read or say anything we don’t do the violence on the microorganisms.
We have the tendency to behave differently with different people. If one is with a celebrity, one may end up serving the personality like the God. We have celebrities at our home but we don’t consider them one. Our parents and grand parents are celebrity, who put in so much of hard effort in their day to day life to ensure that we get a better life than them. To ensure that we live happily and have a cheerful life.
Mostly, we talk about being honest with others but not with oneself. Honesty starts with oneself. Are we really honest with oneself and our capability? Are we really working honestly towards our dreams? It may sound weird but we often end up lying to oneself. It is easy to advise others. There is nothing wrong with doing mistake. Everyone does that. The harm lies in repeating them over time.
May be you don’t have 48 minutes to practice सामायिक. But you can be honest in your day to day life. It will surely bring a change as you will be more aware about oneself.
As Steve Jobs told Tim Cook, “I never want you to ask what I would have done. Just do what’s right.”
