Has Amazon killed the small business in the past decade? What do you think? Probably your mind say yes. Many people go out to purchase, when you can just click and purchase. Many of the mortar and brick shops get closed as they lost the battle to the Amazon. However, simultaneously there is rise of some new businesses too, who can sell directly through e-commerce. Drawin’s phrase, “Fittest of the survival” really fits here. One needs to evolve with the passage of time.
Does Amazon kill startups? What does your mind say here? Probably your mind say no or may be yes. There are instances in the past where Amazon say buy 10% stake in the startup. After buying the stake, it has access to the confidential data and financials information of the startup. Through that data it build it’s own product to compete with that startup and ultimately shutting the door of that startup. I won’t take any name of the startup, a google search will lead you to those names. You can also found those founder’s interview.
Step by step Amazon is entering in every space. Whenever, it enters into a new space, the stock price of other companies in that domain tanks sharply.
Let’s come to India now. Jio has entered into the grocery space, delivering online. With the passage of time, finding a fruit seller will be rare. As most of us will be buying online. The offline sales will be decreasing and they will be ultimately running out of business. With they don’t evolve now, in the coming times it will be difficult for them to survive. Further, there is fear too that what if Reliance enters into the space you are running now. Probably you have to compete by being strong enough. Having limited resources really helps. We all know the Wright Brothers had the least resource and capability, still they ended up on the bright side. Similarly, you too can come up with unique ideas where you can have the moat.
Both Reliance and Amazon were startup someday, they kept growing overcoming the challenges one by one. They too had big competitors in the space but they came up with unique solutions to overcome the challenges and flourish more. Keep Growing!
