9/11’s indirect death toll

How does even the image relate to the topic? Let’s figure it out.

After 9/11, there was drastic decline in the airline passengers and increment of cars in the roads. As people wanted to avoid flying, after having seen such a major accident. There were more cars on the roads. Americans were pushing for cars for long distance travels.

People have the tendency to avoid situations in which many people die at one time. That’s why people stop travelling via airplanes for sometime. Until they felt things were back to normal.

The official death toll for 9/11 is 2,996 but the research suggests that there is further indirect toll because of behavioral changes induced by fear. Though it is difficult to directly assume correlation to causation, Professor Gerd Gigerenzer, a German academic specializing in risk, had estimated that an extra 1595 Americans died in the car accidents that year. He used the trends in road and air to justify. For a period of 12 months there was a temporary increase in road usage until citizens were back to normal flying days.

Given the present pandemic, your behavior may change too being aware of the behavior will definitely help you. You might have developed the tendency to be physically inactive, just lying on the couch and enjoying. However, if you want to stay younger towards your 60s or 80s, you need to start do something about it. Taking aspiration from Mr. Anil Kapoor might definitely help.

Same way be careful before you buy a business just because it is making new highs, without any rationale. After all we all need quick money, without any hard work. Slow and steady always wins the race.

Summing it up in Napoleon’ word. “He said, the great leader, the genius in leadership, is the man who can do the average thing when everybody else is going crazy.”
