Day 97:) Legs Up the Wall

Commonly known as passive yoga as one don’t need to actively put on effort while practicing it. It seems easier in the picture, however if you can just keep the posture for straight 15 minutes you will rewarded tremendously. Let’s see what one can gain from this simple yoga.

Relaxation – The posture lowers the heart rate, which stimulate a relaxation response and help lowers the stress level and anxiety. Further, if you have been doing lots of physical activity or standing/sitting too much during the day, this yoga will energize you.

Reduce Swollen legs or feet – To put in Jacob, the great Mathematician, words, “Invert always invert”. Inversion has solved lots of hard problems. Inverting the legs reduces the pain and swelling of the legs.

Improves Blood Circulation – The gravity is here to help us as we put the legs against the wall. The blood can easily to reach to our heart. Additionally, it promotes drainage from excess fluid build-up.

Anti-aging – As per ancient Hindu text, Viparita Karani (Legs up the wall pose) hides wrinkle and boost digestion too. You will be younger version of yourself. 

One can mix this yoga with deep breathing. Focusing on the breath along with the pose will give more relaxation and boost concentration. One can take baby steps, just 5 minutes else just 2 minutes. However, consistency is the key here. Over the long period of time, the gains will be compounded.

Who shouldn’t try it without doctor’s approval?

People with glaucoma, hypertension, pregnant women and people with hernia. Further one shouldn’t practice directly after in taking food.
