Day 91:) How old is emoji?

Emojis are the little images which make texting more fun. It is the first language born of the digital world. We are so used to them in our day to day life but how much do we know them?

Is there a day when we celebrate World Emoji Day?

Make a wild guess. You will feel good if you end up on the right side. Jumping to the answer, yes there is a dedicated day to celebrate the emojis i.e. on the 17th day of the month of July. The story for how the date was selected is more interesting, will cover it some other day.

How many emojis are generally used daily?

As per the data released by Facebook a couple of year back, on an average 5 billion of emojis are use on messenger alone. By now the figure might have crossed the human population on earth as the frequency of using them is increased drastically too.

Who did create the first emoji?

Japanese artist Shigetaka Kurita created the first one in 1998 for her employer Docomo, Japan’s main mobile carrier. After its huge success in Japan, most of the rival companies and the tech giants incorporated it. She wanted to create icons that makes conversation easier so that they don’t look so text heavy. Kurita’s original 176 emojis are now part of the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

Emojis are at present recognized by Unicode consortium and as of March 2020 there are 3034 emojis.

The emojis are so powerful that they express of their own without uttering a world. Additionally, our brain works more efficiently with images so it makes it more exciting to converse.
